Standard and backport Debian lyx packages assume that only one version of
LyX should be installed ont the system. They do not use a version suffix for
configuration data and user directory.

I use a debian packaged lyx for productive work and a home-compiled one (with
version suffix) for development.

It seems there is some installed package/program that depends on the
non-backport version of a library while lyx-backported depends on the newer,
backported version of this library. This may be solved by upgrading more
packages to the backported version.

I use aptitude to check and resolve such conflicts.

Thanks Günter, for this. I will follow your advices

Install lyx 2.2.3

2018-02-15 Thread Wolfgang Engelmann

I use to start my lyx with

/src/lyx -dbg info

but I get apparently interferences, if I do this with 2.2.3 (in the
2.2.3 lyx folder) and 2.3.0beta1(in another folder), perhaps via the
.lyx stuff (??).

Therefore I would like to install 2.2.3 with the instructions given
below the ###).

I added

deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian stretch-backports main

to my sources.list

(did I choose something wrong here??)

and ran

but get this (see the *bold* sentence below)

Coud somebody tell me what I am doing wrong or what is missing?

   Installation

If you're running Debian, just type:

 apt-get install lyx

This will install the packages |lyx-common| and |lyx| and you're set!

 Versions

 * stretch (stable): 2.2.2
 * stretch with backports (stable): 2.2.3
 * buster/sid (testing/unstable): 2.2.3
 * experimental: 2.3.0rc2

###

With the release of stretch we are pleased to open the doors for
stretch-backports and jessie-backports-sloppy. \o/

As usual with a new release we will change a few things for the
backports service.

   What to upload where

As a reminder, uploads to a release-backports pocket are to be taken
from release + 1, uploads to a release-backports-sloppy pocket are to be
taken from release + 2. Which means:

Source Distribution Backports Distribution Sloppy Distribution
buster  stretch-backports   jessie-backports-sloppy
stretch jessie-backports
