I have now seen the same behaviour with Beyond Compare. Oddly, on one occasion
the sticky dropdown went away without me closing the app. Race condition of
some sort?

Anyhow, it looks to me like a Qt or Mate bug. I'm expecting it to go away when I
upgrade my distro.

Out of curiosity, when a menu sticks, can you dismiss it with the escape
key?

R/. Don't work this trick, but I see, when I unfold a menu, for example
in Document --> Settings --> Output --> and finally unfold the menu:
Default output format, and close the window, appear this menu, and when
I try for second time, it's seems work fine. I try it for a second one
and works fine. I don't know what happen.

Ok, great to receive your suggestions and regards. ;-)

   Alejandro,

I'm copying this back to the user list, to keep the conversation
   visible to others.

This is a bit perplexing. I've installed the same .deb file you
have, from the same source, on the same OS (Mint Rosa), and not
experienced the persistent menus. The one wrinkle is that, when I
was on Rosa, I did not use MATE; I had Cinnamon on my desktop and
Xfce on my laptop. However, since upgrading Mint to 18.0 Sarah (and
subsequently 18.1 Serena), I've had MATE on my desktop, and not had
   the menu issue.

I no longer have Mint 2.2.2 on either machine (I'm on 2.2.3), but
since we installed the same package from the PPA, I assume we were
both using the same Qt version. I'm not a developer, so I don't know
the code base, but Richard Heck is, and seems to believe the issue
would be with Qt. If so, it would apparently have to involve an
interaction with something external to LyX (CPU timing issue, other
application interfering, gremlins, Russian hackers, ...).

Out of curiosity, when a menu sticks, can you dismiss it with the
   escape key?

   Paul

Before upgrading to Mint Serena, I had the same configuration and did
not experience any menus persisting beyond what they should.

I can confirm that you do not need to do anything to install Qt (at
least not if you installed LyX from a .deb file; I've never built it
myself).

You can get the Qt version used by LyX from Help > About LyX... >
Version, at least as of 2.2.3. I think it was there in 2.2.2 as well; if
not, it's definitely on the Build Info tab.

It might be useful to know whether you installed one of Liv's .deb
files, built from scratch or got LyX some other way. Also, which desktop
environment (Cinnamon, MATE, KDE, Xfce) do you use?

Cheers,
Paul

Presumably, the package manager does this for you.

Just so I understand. The problem is that one of LyX's menus just stays
there? Even though you are not using it?

If so, then that looks like a problem with Qt. LyX does not control
these sorts of menu actions by itself, but delegates them to Qt.
