An old request from scientific word people (that I would like to see
implemented) is to be able to enter math mode by hitting the space bar twice.
If you could make hitting the escape key twice do something special, would it
also work for the space bar?

Alt-M is a prefix, it requires something afterwards. But Esc is bound to
a function in itself.

We have other key combinations, right, like Alt-M followed by a? But I'm
pretty clueless about all that.

The question is not "how to transform the inset to LaTeX code?", but
rather "how to put quickly the cursor outside of the math inset to
continue typing?".

Now for my question. Is there a way to leave math mode

One way I found very useful, which does not do exactly what you want, is to use

Thanks for your reply, Jean-Marc. I agree with you that changing the behavior
of Esc isn't desirable. So perhaps some key combination would do? As long as
one can change it by defining a different shortcut, the default isn't that
important. If this can be implemented it would be great.

Thanks for your reply, Kornel. Unfortunately, paragraph-down doesn't always
work, also in displayed formulas; for instance, when the previous/next math
object in the formula has a subscript.

Hello,

First, I have been using LyX for quite a few years, and would like to take this

Now for my question. Is there a way to leave math mode (inline/displayed

for a way to do it in one hit. If this is not currently implemented, I think it
