Thanks Bennett!

I will try to make the final part of the guide this weekend (plenty
to do both at work and at home right now). What I feel is currently
missing is info on how to add templates (which is covered in the
wiki, but should be in the same place w. pictures) and adding
spellchecking support. After that I think any Mac user should be
fairly ready to start using LyX by all the good (cross-platform)
Tutorials that are available. If you think there is anything else Mac-
specific (and basic) I have missed, please let me know.

You're more than welcome to place the guide on the wiki - it should
work
well. Actually, as a relaxation exercise I took ten minutes and
used your

webpage as original and put a wikified copy of it here:

http://wiki.lyx.org/Playground/LyXOnMacInstallGuide

This is just to show you how the markup would be in case you'd like to
keep it on the wiki. If so, we should move it out of the playground

Right now the images are all links to your site - the images can of

also be stored on the wiki, they can simply be uploaded using the file
manager.

If you'd like to split the information over several pages, there's
something called 'wiki trail' [1] that's an easy way to help the
reader go betweeen the pages (prev/next/up).

LyX on Mac --Very first draft of a visual installation guide

2006-02-14 Thread Anders Ekberg
I had an idea to create a visual installation guide for absolute
beginners. The background is that TeX actually is very scary (300 MB
in thousands of files...). If I shall ever persuade my parents,
friends, etc to install LyX, I think they need a very concrete guide
so that they can compare their screens with screen dumps.

So I created a very first attempt to such a guide, which you can find
here:

http://www.am.chalmers.se/~anek/temp/LyX_www/LyXonMac.html

The focus is on Mac-users. I plan on continue with how to use/install
