These are natbib commands, but you use biblatex, not natbib. That's wyh
you get the errors.

Put the following into Document > Settings > Local Layout:

Provides natbib 1

Then you can use all natbib citations styles with biblatex (provided
that you use biblatex's natbib=true option).

[BIBLATEX] LyX 2.1.4, citation issue

2016-12-08 Thread Oliver Margraf
Dear LyXers,

after using LyX now for over a decade (thanks to the developers, great
job!), I recently ran into a slight problem where I haven't been able
yet to figure out what the cause could be.
I'm currently writing an assignment and need to cite literature. For
doing so I use biblatex and biber as backend - works fine. However when
I want to adjust the form of the citation (as it can be achieved when
selecting the style pre-defined in the bib entry mask), the form I need
is not available. In general this is no problem, since once can adjust
this with either of the following commands:

\bibpunct{(}{)}{,}{a}{ }{,}

\setcitestyle{aysep={ }}

The style I need is without a comma after the author and the year in
brackets, e.g. Miller (2013), S. 145
In the PDF with the selected style from the bib entry menu (which I
think should use this style), it is displayed as Miller, (2013, S. 145)

After looking through the web, the solutions I found suggest, that you
just put one of the two mentioned commands in your preamble. However by
doing so, I get an error when I try to compile the doc. It says: " \bibpunct
  {(}{)}{a}{,}{,}
The control sequence at the end of the top line
of your error message was never \def'ed. If you have
misspelled it (e.g., `\hobx'), type `I' and the correct
spelling (e.g., `I\hbox'). Otherwise just continue,
and I'll forget about whatever was undefined."

So, what could this be? When I try to use the \usepackage{natbib} in the
preamble, I get also an error, that natbib is already in use - which is
logical, since it is activated in the settings.

I'm using XeTeX for compiling, LyX 2.1.4 and TeXlive 2015 - running on
Linux Mint

Attached is a small example with my current settings.
Would be great if someone could point me on something I'm missing.

Oliver

Good to know. At that point --- when needing items from history --- I
just revert to LyX's internal clipboard memory from Right click >
Paste Recent.

Yes in CopyQ for me when I retrieve an item in history it pastes it as
it would paste it if I did an immediate copy/paste. That is, the LyX
note (and everything else) would be preserved.

You do have to set this up though (i.e. explicitly tell CopyQ to store
the LyX representation of the clipboard). It is reasonable for clipboard
managers to default to only preserving certain formats. Otherwise a lot
of memory is needed.

If you specifically select an item in Clipman, then all you get is the
note contents (i.e. plain text). Otherwise, simple copy/paste without
accessing the clipboard's history results in the LyX Note being
pasted. Is this different from CopyQ?

I'm curious, when you retrieve an item in history, do they paste in
plain text? For example, make a LyX note, and copy some text and the LyX
note, then copy something else, then in Clipman/Parcellite retrieve the
previous item (the one with the LyX note) and paste. Does it paste the
LyX note?

So does Clipman or Parcellite. Not sure how they interact with Gnome

Note that the clipboard manager CopyQ works very well with LyX.

Re: Problems to select text in Lyx 2.1.4 / Ubuntu 16.04

2016-06-13 Thread Hermann Josef Eckl
Thank you Liviu for this further explanation. I understand that LyX has a
history of problems with clipoard managers. In the current case this seems
triggered by a buggy version of gpaste, which causes also other problems.
But fortunately, there is an easy solution, if gpaste is replaced by
another clipboard manager.

I will post this analysis also in the German ubuntuusers-forum, so maybe
together we can find the underlying causes of these problems.

Re: Problems to select text in Lyx 2.1.4 / Ubuntu 16.04

2016-06-12 Thread Hermann Josef Eckl
Thank you, Scott and all here.

I have tested now the situation on 4 computers and I can confirm, that the
gpaste-extension for the GNOME Shell interferes with LyX, so that problems
in selecting text occur.

As soon as I remove gpaste LyX works normally. The gpaste extension
consists of 4 packages: gpaste (this seems to be the gpaste-demon), gnome-
shell-extensions-gpaste (the visible shell extension), gir1.2-gpaste-4.0,
libgpaste4. I am not sure, whether it is the shell-extension, that causes
the problems or the underlying gpaste-demon.

It is still strange, that only LyX has those text-selection problems,
whereas all other programs work normally together with gpaste. Also LyX
worked fine prior to Ubuntu 16.04. In Debian 8.x gpaste has the version
3.14-2, in Ubuntu it has the version 3.18.3-1.

Anyway gpaste causes some other strange problems in Ubuntu 16.04. The
gpaste-demon seems to trigger an XORG-process which consumes extreme
amounts of CPU-power. So I would give the advice that gpaste should not be
used in Ubuntu 16.04; it can be replaced by Clipboard Indicator, which can
be installed online via the GNOME extensions website.

Thank you for all the help and best wishes,
yours, Hermann Josef

Good job figuring out the problem! First, it is not necessarily the case
that LyX is not to blame. LyX could be the problem, or gpaste could be
the problem, or other updates due to 16.04 could be the problem. It is
hard to say.

Hopefully you can make progress in identifying where the bug comes from
so that you can report it to the right place so that future users won't
have the same issue. I think that would take you a lot of time though.

That seems very strange an annoying indeed.

If I am trying to select some text, the selection captures only short
passages and fails after some words or paragraphs, regardless of whether I
am selecting with the mouse or with keyboard shortcuts. ALl other programmes
(text editor, Libre Office etc.) are working correctly and I can select text

Do you run any utilisty related to clipboard (clipboard manager of some

Thank you, Guillaume, for your advice. I tried this PPA with LyX 2.2.

Unfortunately the problem persists also with this new version.
Additionally, the selection of text is VERY slowly and the selection
breaks again after some words or lines.

OK good to know. Let us know if you see this problem with 2.2.0. It
would be nice to figure out what's going on. Perhaps it is a threading
or caching issue.

You and Paola are both on Mac, I believe, but Alexander is on Fedora so
it seems not limited to one platform. I don't think I have ever seen
this issue though on Ubuntu.

No problem, Paula. But if you see the issue on alpha2 I would be

Hi Alexander,

Thanks for the feedback. There have been numerous improvements to our
preview machinery. The first thing to do would be to test 2.2.0beta2 to
see if you still see a problem with that. If it is the case, then we
would investigate further. Are you able to test 2.2.0beta2? I'm not sure
if there are Fedora binaries available. I don't know Fedora's
updates-testing works. If it's not available through that, would you be
interested in compiling LyX? I know we have at least two Fedora users
that compile LyX around here so I'm sure we would be able to help with
any problem you come across. Note that the latest pre-release sources
are here:

I'm using LyX 2.1.4 on Fedora 22 (4.3.4-200.fc22.x86_64) with instant
math preview on. After editing about a page of maths formulae, the
instant preview will start displaying "random" previous formulae

the correct one, so LyX has the correct one internally.
The problem goes away if I close the document and reopen it, but after
about another page or so of editing, the problem reoccurs.

I'd be grateful for any advice on how to solve this.

LYX 2.1.4 and El Capitan: Error converting eps and PDF

2015-12-04 Thread Cristoforo Demartino
I installed LyX 2.1.4. on a Mac with El Capitan. When I insert a pdf or eps
figure, LyX displays an error in converting the file; accordingly I can't see
the figure in the software.
The output PDF is created without any problem.

I was able to start LyX using the command line and this is the error: sh:
convert: command not found

This is the path:

/Library/TeX/texbin:/usr/texbin:/sw/bin:/sw/sbin:/opt/local/teTeX/bin:/opt/local/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin

I obtained the same error using LyX 2.2 beta version.

Can anyone help with this issue?

This issue has been cross-posted in the following places:

Cristoforo, it is important to note all the places where you cross-post.
Imagine a solution is found on e.g. the tex.stackexchange thread you
started. Would you want someone to spend an hour trying to find a
solution when a solution already exists? Listing all the places you
cross-post is a way to avoid this issue.

Re: Math Palettes are ineffective (MAC OS EL CAPITAN - LyX 2.1.4)

2015-11-16 Thread James Sutherland
I can confirm this problem.
My suggestion is to type out the latex form for characters rather than
using the palettes. This is faster, but does require that you know the
latex form.

Math Palettes are ineffective (MAC OS EL CAPITAN - LyX 2.1.4)

2015-11-13 Thread Pierre Bessière
Hi all,

I just updated Lyx to 2.1.4 on a Powerbook Pro with OS X (10.11.1).
There is a very interesting, strange and bothersome phenomena : the math
palettes are „transparent“ for the mouse.
If you click on a math palette with a background that is not the Lyx window, it
works.
On the contrary if you click on a math palette with a background that is the
Lyx window, then what you get is what you would get without the math palette
popped…
I saw some discussions on that subject in the archive in early October but no
solution.
Any one has anything to suggest ?

Thanks :-)

Since you previously installed MiKTeX It might be that it is misconfigured.

It seems also that you have Python installed. If you have Python
installed, please remove its path from Windows PATH environment variable
(if you find this setting). If you don't explicitly need Python,
consider to uninstall it or replace it with the older Python 2.7.

I propose the following:

1. handle Python as described
2. open an Internet connection
3. uninstall LyX _completely_
4. uninstall MiKTeX _completely_
5. reinstall LyX using the latest bundle installer:
ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/2.1.4/LyX-2.1.4-Bundle-4.exe

This should do the job.

Please report if this helped you.

Hello,

No, I never installed the complete content of MikTeX, I only had it
downloaded before I started the installation (as I said).

I believe that " MiKTeX you got" should read " MiKTeX you will get".

Michael is suggesting installing the complete MiKTeX. It takes up a lot of
space but can be awfully useful when you need some obscure package to tweak
that last formatting problem. Otherwise you waste a lot of time loading
individual packages on an ad hoc basis.

Solution for English spell checking problem in LyX 2.1.4

2015-10-16 Thread Uwe Stöhr

Dear LyXers,

it was not possible to spell-check English (US and Canadian) under LyX
2.1.4 for Windows. This problem is now fixed.

There are 2 possibilities:

- replace the 2 files
  en_CA.aff
  en_US.aff
in the LyX installation folder with these ones:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/lyxwininstaller/files/hunspell/en_CA.aff/download
  and

http://sourceforge.net/projects/lyxwininstaller/files/hunspell/en_US.aff/download

- uninstall LyX and the reinstall it using the latest installer you find on
  http://www.lyx.org/Download
  or
  http://ftp.lyx.de/LyX%202.1.4/

regards Uwe

[ANNOUNCE] LyX 2.1.4 Windows Binaries

2015-07-30 Thread Richard Heck

Windows binaries for LyX 2.1.4 are now available for download.

Public release of LyX version 2.1.4
===

We are proud to announce the release of LyX 2.1.4. This is the fourth
maintenance release in the 2.1.x series.

Please note that, at this time, there are no binaries for Windows. These
will be released when some issues with the bundled LaTeX distribution
have been fixed.

LyX is a document processor that encourages an approach to writing based
on the structure of your documents and not simply their appearance. It is
released under a Free and Open Source Software license.

You can download LyX 2.1.4 from http://www.lyx.org/Download/.

LyX 2.1.4 is the result of on-going efforts to make our stable version
even more reliable and stable. We have fixed a number of bugs and made
a number of improvements. Many of these were minor, but there were a
few crashes we fixed, too. We strongly encourage all LyX users to upgrade
to this version.

If you think you have found a bug in LyX 2.1.4, please open a bug report at
http://www.lyx.org/trac/wiki/BugTrackerHome. If you're not sure whether it
really is a bug, you can e-mail the LyX developers' mailing list (lyx-devel
 lists.lyx.org) and ask.

If you have trouble using LyX or have a question, consult the
documentation that comes with LyX and the LyX wiki, which lives at
http://wiki.lyx.org/. If you can't find the answer there, e-mail the LyX
users' list (lyx-users lists.lyx.org).

We hope you enjoy using LyX 2.1.4.

The LyX team.
