I have compiled lyx again: LyX Version 2.3.0 (Samstag, 24. Re: LyZ: lyxpipe changes in 2.0?
I just tested this in LyX 2.0 beta 2 on OS X and it worked fine — after I changed the LyX pipe path (back) to ~/.lyxpipe, which is the default LyZ setting. You could change LyZ alternatively of course. Point being I think it's simply down to the pipe file path matching correctly. 2010/12/6 lyx-users-digest-h...@lists.lyx.org -- Forwarded message -- From: Petr Šimon petr.si...@gmail.com To: sa...@lyx.org, lyx-users@lists.lyx.org Date: Sat, 4 Dec 2010 22:38:05 +0800 Subject: Re: LyZ: lyxpipe changes in 2.0? Not sure with SVN, but with lyx 2b1 release lyz works almost fine. The only problem I had was that the latest lyz cannot create a bibtex record by itself, but that seems more like a lyz/firefox related problem. Not sure with SVN, but with lyx 2b1 release lyz works almost fine. The only problem I had was that the latest lyz cannot create a bibtex record by itself, but that seems more like a lyz/firefox related problem. If I touch a .bib file manually, then lyz can port citations perfectly. - Original Message - From: Jose Quesada Sent: 12/03/10 07:37 PM To: sa...@lyx.org, lyx-users@lists.lyx.org Subject: Re: LyZ: lyxpipe changes in 2.0? LyZ: lyxpipe changes in 2.0?
Hi, I use the LyZ FF addon to insert zotero references: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/56806/ (btw, highly recommended!) I -think- it was working before on 2.0 svn, but I may be misremembering and it might have been 1.6... In any case one obvious problem seems to be that in LyZ preferences the default lyxpipe is: /home/user/.lyx/lyxpipe But looking for that file, I realized I have instead: /home/user/.lyx/lyxpipe.in /home/user/.lyx/lyxpipe.out I never cared to look for this before because it worked, it may have always been like that... Have there been changes on the way lyx uses lyxpipes? Could this be the reason it doesn't work? In any case, it could be a problem on the LyZ side of course. Here's a hint in that direction: http://www.klubko.net/wp/?page_id=945 Now I have to port it to new Zotero API, but I just have so little time to look into it. This single addon makes lyx an order of magnitude more useful to me. Please let me know what I can do to help. Now that 2.0 is approaching rc, it'd be nice to have it working by then. -- Best, -Jose PS: looks like the entire LyZ architecture is a bit quirky: After much opening and closing of programs I learned that I must open firefox *after* have my document is opened in Lyx. This was the critical step that I missed. Thanks again for writing this extremely useful program. Jose Quesada, PhD. newbie question: output and get lyxpipe, and extra field codes
Just in first days of trying to learn to use JabRef/Lyx on Windows Vista with Word 2007. Trying to output and I get the error message that says ensure lyx is running (it is) and that the lyxpipe is valid (don't know how to do that). Secondly, have downloaded some references from medline, and when I try to save it says: Error in field 'institution': The # character is not allowed in BibTeX fields. In JabRef, use pairs of # characters to indicate a string. Note that the entry causing the problem has been selected. Correct the entry, and reopen editor to display/edit source. But I can't find the institution field, where's it hidden the entry screen for optional fields for example doesn't list it, and it's not scrollable, so ??? Cheers, Russell J. Some entry types (e.g. Techreport) have an institution field (it's in the Required fields tab in the case of Techreport) and some (e.g. Article) do not. I think you can add Institution to something like Article using Options - Customize entry types, but unless Medline is adding institutions to articles, books etc. you shouldn't have to. (I don't use Medline, so I have no idea about this.) You can peek into the .bib file using Notepad or any text file viewer/editor, locate the # character, see what entry it's in and whether that entry has an Institution field. Then highlight the entry in JabRef and, if there's no Institution field, add it using the customization menu. /Paul

Inserting graphics via lyxpipe
Hi -- I'd like to be able to insert graphics using the lyx server, but I'm not sure whether there are LFUN's that I need. I can do inset-insert graphics and dialog-show-new-inset graphics, but I don't know how to specify the name of the file I'd like to insert. e.g. I wish I could do inset-insert graphics file=/home/user/blah.png In general, it'd be great if it were possible to pop up a dialog via the server, with a bunch of options set via extra arguments. e.g: dialog-show-new-inset graphics file=/home/user/blah.png scale-graphics=true scale-graphics-value=80 The point of this is I want to write a shell script that let's me take a screen shot, save it to a file, and automatically insert this file as a graphic into the current lyx buffer. Thanks, David

lyxpipe, jabref and windows with LyX 1.5.1
Hi everyone! I've installed Lyx 1.5.1 and JabRef 2.3b (win XP SP1). When I try to insert a citation from JabRef to LyX document, through the direct icon LyX in JabRef, an error message appears about LyxPipe. Is the following message (2007-01-01, LyX 1.4.3-5 and JabRef 2.2b) still valid for the LyX 1.5.1??? You cannot use this feature on windows, since the pipe is implemented using UNIX specific functions that are not available on windows. (http://www.mail-archive.com/lyx-users@lists.lyx.org/msg52716.html) It doesn't work either using the c-k function (the final dvi document has a \cite{BLABLAXXX}). So, if I want to use my biblio.bib with LyX and JabRef (and I want to!) I have first to 'insert' the bibliography in the LyX repertories, and then using the LyX tool Insert Citation... ?? Thanks for your help, Regards, Sara

Pushing citations via lyxpipe from JabRef on Ubuntu
Hello, Following the hint from http://article.gmane.org/gmane.editors.lyx.general/37911 I tried to insert a insert a citations via lyxpipe from JabRef. JabRef gives me the following error when trying to push a citation into pipe: Error: Verify that Lyx is running and that the lyxpipe is valid. [/home/user/lyxpipe] I checked into that /home/user/lyxpipe directory end it doesn't exist. My questions: 1) How do I create a valid lyxpipe? 2) Shouldn't that pipe automatically created when one starts Lyx for the first time? (this must then be a fault of the Ubuntu package) Thanks for your help, Tim

pushing references to LyX with lyxpipe
Hi, I use Jabref and there is an option to push to LyX using lyxpipe? Does this work on windows? If not can it be made to work in other versions of LyX.
Re: pushing references to LyX with lyxpipe
It works fine under LyX on Linux. Great, actually. The problem here is that there are no named pipes under Windows, which is what LyX uses to communicate with the outside world. (These are things that look like files but aren't really files at all: Programs can write into them and other programs can then read out of them, but it's all happening without any actual storage.) All you have to do to get this working is configure the location of the pipe in LyX (Preferences Paths Lyxpipe) and in JabRef (Options Prefs External Programs Path to LyX Pipe). Obviously, you need to configure them the same! Pybliographer has a similar facility. There's lots of useful stuff you can do with this pipe. I'll send another message illustrating.
