That’s the point. I’ve installed it on 12.1 and upgraded to 12.3 and 12.6.

After upgrade to 12.3 LyX started to trigger the request to install Python. See
https://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/12523. This happened because of Apples decision
to remove Python 2.7 from the system on upgrade to 12.3 and provide an Python 3
stub instead.

There was no problem to upgrade to 12.6 afterwards. But this I didn’t know
until trying it.

I’ll try that next to see what’s the situation on these OS’s is.

 Hi Edwin,

that’s bad, sorry to hear that.

I remember you’ve made a trac ticket in LyX bug tracker. There you’ve
mentioned using LyX-2.3.6.2 on Monterey 12.4.

Does it mean you’ve upgraded your OS from 12.4 to 12.6? Or is it a new
 system?

JMarc is right (see the other answer), there is a possible problem with
Python on Mac since OS 12.3… but it might be not your problem if you’ve
 installed it yet.

You may try to start the LyX binary inside a terminal window. E.g. type

 /Applications/LyX.app/Contents/MacOS/lyx

and hit enter and wait for any error message and post it here.

Re: LyX 2.3.6.3 fatal problems on a Mac

2022-09-20 Thread Edwin Burmeister
Hi, Stephen—

Ich verstehen.

I always installed all upgrades to Mac OS. So my order was 12.4, 12.5, I
believe 12.5.1, and finally 12.6.

LyX was not installed on any of these OS’s until I finally tried unsuccessfully
to do so on 12.6.

I do not know if some versions of Python was installed on any of these OS’s.

But again the bottom line is that a fresh install of Python3 on OS 12.6
completely solved my LyX problems.

Hope this additional info helps.

Have not been using OS 12.4 for quite awhile.

My question was: did you upgrade the system (with OS 12.4 + LyX + Python) to
12.6 or did you install LyX on a new system with 12.6?

There was “a critical OS 12.5 upgrade” [or maybe it was OS 12..5.1] in between
that I also had installed.

In any event, my problems with LyX 2.3.6.2 have all gone away since I installed

I’d guess you installed LyX w/o Python on a new system.

Hope this info is helpful to you.

Problems on a Mac

2009-03-01 Thread Guido Milanese
Dear Experts,
I am not a real LyX User (I prefer LaTeX) but I always suggest LyX to
my students and to everyone wishing to leave the Word-like approach
to writing.
Most of my students use Windows, and it's all right, some Linux, even
better, but a PhD student using a Mac apparently cannot reconfigure
LyX. The LaTeX installation is all right: it produces PDF and DVI
with no problems at all.
Using LyX, even a very simple file, this student cannot produce PDF or
DVI. Checking the configuration boxes it seems to me to be all right;
I made a comparison with LyX on my Ubuntu installation and I cannot
detect any problem, but non even the PDF and DVI icons are shown
(through menu we get an error message saying that there is no
converter). The students is using a Mac Book Air equipped with Mac OS
X version 10.5.6; Lyx version is 1.6.1-Universal. Removing the
programme and installing again was not successful.

Many thanks!
gm

Re: Problems on a Mac

2009-03-01 Thread Christian Liesen

Hi,

did you check the Path Prefix in LyX -- Preferences? On my MacBook
Pro with OS X 10.5.6 I once had a problem with an old prefix that did
not correctly specify the paths to TeX Live 2008 in my /usr folder.

FYI, my path prefix entry reads:

/usr/texbin:/usr/local/texlive/2008/bin/universal-darwin:/sw/bin:/sw/
sbin:/opt/local/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/sbin:/
sbin

Your student can check her TeX installation paths by choosing Finder --
Go to -- Go to Folder -- /usr.

detect any problem, but non even the PDF and DVI icons are shown
(through menu we get an error message saying that there is no
converter). The students is using a Mac Book Air equipped with Mac OS
X version 10.5.6; Lyx version is 1.6.1-Universal. Removing the
programme and installing again was not successful.

Hi,

did you check the Path Prefix in LyX -- Preferences? On my MacBook
Pro with OS X 10.5.6 I once had a problem with an old prefix that did
not correctly specify the paths to TeX Live 2008 in my /usr folder.

FYI, my path prefix entry reads:

/usr/texbin:/usr/local/texlive/2008/bin/universal-darwin:/sw/bin:/sw/
sbin:/opt/local/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/sbin:/
sbin

Your student can check her TeX installation paths by choosing Finder --
Go to -- Go to Folder -- /usr.

Most of my students use Windows, and it's all right, some Linux, even
better, but a PhD student using a Mac apparently cannot reconfigure
LyX. The LaTeX installation is all right: it produces PDF and DVI
with no problems at all.
Using LyX, even a very simple file, this student cannot produce PDF or
DVI. Checking the configuration boxes it seems to me to be all right;
I made a comparison with LyX on my Ubuntu installation and I cannot
detect any problem, but non even the PDF and DVI icons are shown
