I'm not using the Elsevier Article Class, but rather an older LyX template
from https://github.com/wwkong/Typesetting-Templates

I solved this problem by removing (commenting out) the following lines in
the Document -> LaTeX Preamble, that was created by the template:

% For Bibliography

%\usepackage{apacite} % Order here is important!
%\usepackage{natbib}

LyX allows you to specify natbib in Document Settings -> Bibliography, and
the apacite package is problematic for reasons I don't understand (except
that it's known as accidental complexity). Hope this is helpful.

Liviu pointed me to the solution: one cannot convert an existing document
to the Elsevier article class. Instead, it's necessary to use File -> New
from template and select the Elsevier article template. Cut-and-paste from
the original document and it complies just fine.

The appearance is extremely different so there must be hidden foo in the
template that are critical to the document's compilation.

Hi Rich,
Please simplify the document to minimum which still exhibits the
errors you're seeing, and feel free to send it to me off-list.

Using Elsevier Article Class

2016-01-26 Thread Rich Shepard

I'm reformatting an article for submittal to the Journal of Applied
Geochemistry using the Elsevier article class. When I try to preview the
article errors are thrown in the regression tables.

In the former KOMA-article class, regression tables were in the LyX-code
environment, but that's not available in the Elsevier article class. At the
bottom of the environment pull-down list is the entry, "LyX-Code (Unknown),"
and I've no idea what that means. And, I keep getting 'Undefined control
sequence' errors.

I'm sure someone here has used the Elsevier article class and can point me
to how to properly use the LyX environments for literal text such as R
regression table output.

TIA,

Rich

I suspect that "LyX-Code" is not defined in the Elsevier-class layout
file. You could try to copy the "LyX-Code" definition from the Koma
layout to your file's local layout.

Have you considered using xtable or stargazer to export regression
tables to LaTeX, and copy/paste the output in an ERT inset in your LyX
document?

Liviu,

I used the R output (as text). I'll try inserting the tables in ERT and
see if that helps. If not, I'll figure out something that'll work for review
purposes (submission deadline is 1 February) and futz with the details
later.

Thanks,

The problem seems related to the bibtex style file: apacite.sty. From the
displayed error log:

 (/usr/share/texmf-dist/tex/latex/fragments/subscript.sty)
(/usr/share/texmf-d

The control sequence at the end of the top line
of your error message was never \def'ed. If you have
misspelled it (e.g., hobx'), type ' and the correct
spelling (e.g., \hbox'). Otherwise just continue,
and I'll forget about whatever was undefined.

Can someone suggest an equivalent alternative to apacite.sty?

I've attached the document log file. The problem I now have is that the
referenced line numbers (which I assume is to what l.1216 refers) does not
contain the string \st@rtbibchapter. That line in the .lyx file is part of a
table.

I can forward the .lyx file if that helps, it's 123K while the error file
is 31K. All errors in the log file refer to the bibliography and all of the
line numbers for each error is in a table.

  Here's what I have now.

In Document -> Settings -> Bibliography
Citation style: Natbib Natbib style: Author-year
Bibliography style: elsarticle-harv
Bibliography generation: bibtex

At the end of the document in the "BibTeX Generated Bibliography"
Settings: style is elsarticle-harv.

  What have I missed?
