Then try this:

1. unistall your manually installed Aspell, all Aspell dictionaries

2. delete the remaining aspell folders manually
3. check that aspell is not listed in the PATH environment variable of Windows
4. check the registry if there are still some Aspell entries although you uninstalled it, if so,
delete these entries but be careful not to delete anything else!

5. uninstall LyX completely and reinstall LyX using this installer:

That's it. Now you should have a working Aspell installatuion with at least the dictionaries for

You probably have an Aspell installation for the current user. Remove it
if you want to use the system-wide version instead.

Another point, that could be a question of Aspell is, that it is important to
install the English dictionary at first, regardless which dict you really
want to use. Otherwise other dicts like the German one demands *every* word.
You have to delete the whole Aspell directory and repeat the installation.
But that could be a special thing of Aspell, and has nothing to do with LyX.

Maybe something else was wrong. All dictionaries just have their own

Yes, but *where* exaclty? E.g. if I made an installation *only* for me, it is
my own Directory in *Directory Settings*, right? Or is it the *root*
directory of *Documents Settings*?

Please go to Control Panel Add/Remove Programs and uninstall anything

Yes, I did it four times. You cannot uninstall Aspell totally by this way.
Therefore I deleted some remainigs by hand. I uninstalled the *whole*
components of the LyX bundle as well. And I tested, if the files have really
vanished before I started the next installation.

and then install LyX and the dictionaries again.
I installed first the bundle for only one user, without making a cross for the
dictiionary, because I want to install it *afterwards*. I got from GNU the
package From GNU I got the package Aspell-de-0.50-2-3, which contains the
dictionaries, that arede.multi, de_DE-only.rws, deutsch.aias, de_DE.multi,
german.alias and some Swiss Packages in directory dict and de and de_phonet
in directory data. These directories are installed in a directory called
TmpInstall, and sureley I have to copy it. But where is the *correct* place
in *Document Settings*?

Since I am preparing al LyX-CD for czech pupils, I do not want to urge them,
downloading a file from the net without knowing anything about the origin (As
I told you, yesterday I got a *suspicous* version of the dictionary by a
German server in Berlin*. And if you want to install an additional dictionary
for another language, you must know these steps in any case. So, please:
Where do I have to put the dicts *exacly* and which files? I do not think
that all of them are necessary. There is no help in the package to figure
out.

I did not install aspell itself. As you said, this is not necessary.

 You
don't need to install anything else.
Hopefully not. But I do not htink so. The problem remains the same. And still
it is top secret what lyx really does while invoking aspell.

Note that an installation of Aspell for your own user account gets
 priority over the system-wide version.
Yes, I read your replies to the same problem several days ago. But I tried a
lot of possibilities. With and without aspell. Nothing works.

 So if you installed dictionaries
for all users but still have a private copy of Aspell with it's own
dictionaries, the dictionaries of the system-wide version will not be used.
I installed it only for my own now. But the problem ist the same. Where does
LyX search for the dicts?

Heiko:

I experienced something similar with my installation of LyX+Aspell
under Widnows. In my case the solution was the following:

1) Unistall the current Aspell

2) Get the dictionary files of Aspell6 from the LyX wiki page

http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/Aspell6

Do not use the dictionaries from the GNU page.

3) Before installing any dictionary, you must install first the
english dictionary. This will be automatically installed in:

Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Aspell\Dictionaries

4) After this you can install any other dictionary, the problem is
that some of them may not install in the proper directory. If this
happens, you must manually move the files to the same directory:

Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Aspell\Dictionaries

At least, this worked for me.

Hopefully not. But I do not htink so. The problem remains the same. And still
it is top secret what lyx really does while invoking aspell.

Yes, I read your replies to the same problem several days ago. But I tried a

 So if you installed dictionaries

Heiko:

I experienced something similar with my installation of LyX+Aspell
under Widnows. In my case the solution was the following:

1) Unistall the current Aspell

2) Get the dictionary files of Aspell6 from the LyX wiki page

http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/Aspell6

Do not use the dictionaries from the GNU page.

3) Before installing any dictionary, you must install first the
english dictionary. This will be automatically installed in:

Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Aspell\Dictionaries

4) After this you can install any other dictionary, the problem is
that some of them may not install in the proper directory. If this
happens, you must manually move the files to the same directory:

Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Aspell\Dictionaries

At least, this worked for me.

Again the great old aspell problem

2007-08-17 Thread Heiko Schroeder
Dear list,

I am sorry, but I read every topic in the mailinglist about the well known
aspell problem (still with LyX 1.5.1) under windows. I do not get the reason
why this problem exists:

Simply aspell does never find a dictionary although it is installed correctly.
And correctly means: for every user of the computer, since I chose the same
kind of installation with LyX. Therefore the suggested solution in the
mailinglists do not succeed, I must admit. Under Linux there is not even a
shadow of this problem. Under Windows -- of course -- it kills you half a
day.

Where does LyX *search* for the dicts? It is not said anywhere in the
documentation, as far as I found out.
It seems to search for files with the extension *.pws, but the dicts under
Windows have the extension *.rws.

To help newbies to install LyX under Windows there should be a hint in the
installer that you have to download the dictionary from the web. When it is
called LyX bundle, you do not expect that it is *not* the whole thing. Since
there is no hint from which address the download will be taken, ther the
danger of virusses occur (I made the bad experience with a server in Germany
where I fetched one dict). Therefore there should be a possibility to
installe aspell and the dicts manually -- and it is very easy to get a
success. But LyX does not find anything.

The problem is familiar since a long time, I am afraid. More clear information
about the paths which are searched by LyX would be a good idea. Or am I
wrong?

If you have time to give me any hint for the solution, although it is well
known, would be a great thing.

Thanks a lot

LyX 1.4.3/Aspell problem (WinXP)

2006-09-22 Thread Paul A. Rubin

Hi,

I just installed 1.4.3 in parallel with 1.4.2 and 1.4.1. (As usual,
thanks to the developers for cranking out another new and improved
version, and to all involved with the Windows port.) During the
installation process, I think the installer parked some Aspell-related
files under C:\Documents and Settings\what_a_handsome_guy\Application
Data\Aspell. That is to say, the files are there now, I don't remember
if they were there before, and during the installation progress report I
think I saw something on the what I'm up to line about something going
in up there.

I already had Aspell 0.50, the necessary bits of 0.60, and assorted
dictionaries installed under C:\Aspell. The problem is, when I try to
check spelling in 1.4.3, I'm informed that 'No word lists can be found
for the language en_US'. On the other hand, 1.4.2 (which is using the
same preferences file etc.) seems to have no trouble finding them. I'm
hoping I don't have to reinstall Aspell each time there's an upgrade to
LyX. Any ideas what I can do to cure this?

Thanks,
Paul (whose spelling, while good, is not entirely perfect)

2006-02-24 Thread Harold Mouras
Hello all,

I am using Lyx 1.3.7 for windows but don’t have any access to aspell for the
spellchecking of my documents.

Should I put something specific in the preferences of lyx ?

I tried to reinstall aspell with the windows installer independently but it
didn”t work, even in c:\aspell

Could you help me to fix that ?

Thank you very much in advance,

Sincerely,

Harold

Lyx + pdf + aspell problem on windows

2006-01-30 Thread Primrose.Mbanefo
Hi,

I just installed the 1.3.7 on two windows machines (XP and 2000) which
had aspell preinstalled in c:/aspell.
I cannot get lyx to use aspell. What should I do.

I changed the preview to call : acrord32.exe because there was nothing
there.

Now it calls acrobat reader but the reader always says file not found

Any ideas? (sorry if these questions have already been asked. I couldn't
find out how to search the mailing lists...)

When you say this what do you mean? If you produce a test doc with clearly
misspelled words and put the cursor at the start of the doc and select
spell check from teh menu what happens?

Do you hjave a dictrionary installed?

ON the other hand if you are trying to change ispell to aspell in the
preferences then this wont work. It always says I spell.

Is the reader open before the call to view pdf? Try closing acrobat andf
then selecting preview in lyx.

Yes I have the dictionaries I need installed (3 of them)

No the reader was not started. I have tried this but to no avail,

The file should be under /usr/lib/aspell. Your listing didn't show

Did you install the dictonaries? Depending on you distribution you
might have to do that seperatly.

The file should be under /usr/lib/aspell. Your listing didn't show
anything in that directory.

Did you install the dictonaries? Depending on you distribution you
might have to do that seperatly.
