Re: how to get text effects in beamer (3d, shadow)
Any idea? Perhaps something like the aqua effect suffices? Example: http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/advanced/aqua_text.png Explanation: http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/advanced/#gel_effects

Still not ideal as I'm not sure about getting a two line title but that is minor. The question remains now of how to achieve the 3d effect with an external program so that I get the text image to include. Got the shadow rather easily but can't manage to get the highlights for the text. Any idea? (gotten close with gimp but I don't know how to automate it, still far away with convert) It's still only tested with straight latex, will see how to handle \write18 from within lyx later on

See e.g. http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/fonts/ Best regards, Stefaan. If it's possible to call it from inside latex then it's a good solution. I want to create a beamer theme that takes the slide header and typesets the text with a 3d effect, so I need something that works as a latex package and commands. I've also looked into asymptote, but don't see anything that seems to be able to do the job either ... I'm looking for something that can work like tikz or asymptote, i.e include a package, wrap the text with some commands and get the effect

Is there anything that can do that in lyx/beamer/latex? Not sure if that is acceptable to you, but imagemagick can easily create such drawings for you. See e.g. http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/fonts/ Best regards, Stefaan.
how to get text effects in beamer (3d, shadow)
I'm trying to port a powerpoint presentation to lyx with beamer. The one problem I ran into is reproducing a 3d text effect similar to http://www.math.tau.ac.il/~michf/example.jpg I found a package that does the shadow (and some mirror and other effects in tik-z) but could find anything that can do highlights on text to get the 3d effects. I even tried downloading a font creation tool and create a new font with these glyphs instead of producing the effect, but it seems that fonts can only contain b/w bitmaps as far as I can tell and no highlight effects Is there anything that can do that in lyx/beamer/latex? Thanks
