Lyx GTK and archlinux
Dear all, Just a quick question: has any of you successfully compiled lyx in archlinux --with-frontend=gtk? I'm having problems with that. Cheers --

Lyx gtk, fonts, encoding and spellcheck
I've first met with LyX, when my brother used it while he had attended the Technical University. He switched to LyX after some sorrow experiences of another (the most common) word processor. Although the OS was Debian, my brother is hardly involved in word processing nowdays as he's a developer (did you mention that he might deal with some documentation of the source - nope: welcome to the real world...) I'm running Gentoo x86, only stable packages and I use gnome as a desktop environment and window manager. All locales-related environmental variables (LC*) specify a non-utf8 locale (hu_HU). Gnome is started in a way to use this locale also (specified in .dmrc). So I'm just taking care of all avaiable settings to create a non-utf8 desktop environtment for me. LyX's version is 1.4.1 (Gentoo stable ebuild), nls support is compiled in since the necessary USE flag is set. For the first time I also left other USE flags untouched, so it was also compiled to be aware of gtk and gnome. 1.) All gnome menus are showing up with correct font style and encoding. LyX displays latin1 encoded letters instead. The same goes for the text input field. The language is set to "magyar", and the encoding is set to the corresponding value: latin2. In the mean time: the document generated by LyX are correct. No matter what fonts I select in the preferences, it doesn't influence the appearence of LyX. The input text changes according to the font settings, but appears latin1 encoded all the time. The preferences file of my user contains the necessary lines to set popup_font_encoding and screen_font_encoding to "iso-8859-2". If LyX compiled with gtk and gnome support, the options to change bold and normal popup fonts are missing. If I specify these in the preferences file, things remain the same. I'm lost here, because if it would take the fonts from the gnome settings, than it should appear right. I suppose this isn't the intended behaviour. Compiling LyX without gtk support solves this issue. How can I set the popup fonts when using LyX compiled with gtk? 2.) There is an annoying problem when using the spell checker. If I'm using the hungarian dictionary of ispell with "use input encoding" disabled, and I replace an incorrect word, the correct form appears if it were a latin1 encoded unicode string (I would ought to use latin2). If I enable "use input encoding", ispell gets back with the following error message: "ispell: unrecognized formatter type 'latin2'". I've also managed get hunspell to work (I've contributed to the Gentoo ebuild, anyway). It required some tweaking of the preferences file's spell_command line. Hunspell also doesn't like "use input encoding": "Nem lehet megnyitni a(z) latin2-t." - which means: "cannot open latin2". If I disable "use input encoding" it behaves the same as for ispell: replacing a word results an incorrectly encoded string. The intresting thing is, that there are two dictionaries for Hungarian in hunspell: an iso-8859-2 encoded, and an utf-8. If I repeat this with the utf-8 dictionary, it results the following error message: "This UTF-8 encoding can't convert to UTF-16" (sic!). I don't know why does LyX tries to rape the encodings while compiled with [EMAIL PROTECTED] support. What UTF-16? - I'm just fed up with unicode. The easy workaround for this issue is to use the spellchecker for finding typos. That would be the same without gtk, where the correponding dialog for replacement is completely missing. That is the reason I'm pushing this gtk issue, because it is a nice feature to have a dialog for suggestions and replacement. I'm sorry, that I wasn't short, but I felt necessary to discuss these issues in details. It would be nice to have a functioning gtk spellchecking dialog in LyX. Can I expect it to work if I switch my box completely to unicode? I'm waiting for any suggestions which doesn't involve Qt. Regards, Dwokfur
crash inserting citation with lyx-gtk 1.4.1
Hi all I have a reproducible crash in LyX 1.4.1 (Ling Li's lyx-gtk RPM on FC5). I have a document with some graphics and formulae. I have a master document with about 10 Input boxes to include the various chapters. Only the master document contains the Bibtex box at the end -- the chapters do not. I opened my chapter 4 document from the recent documents menu of lyx-gtk (Ling Li's RPM for FC5). Then I opened my master document, also from the recent documents menu. Then I clicked on the chapter 4 input and clicked load to jump to that document. Then I scrolled down and just after a citation element and just before a figure float, I selected insert citation. Then I scrolled down the list of references and double clicked the bibtex key that I wanted. Then I clicked OK. Re: lyx-gtk compilation error
Thanks. Anyway I use Ubuntu, which is quite common for gnome users ... 2005/10/27, Jean-Marc Lasgouttes [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Luca == Luca Nicotra [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Luca it worked perfectly thanks Jean-Marc ... should I notify this as Luca a bug? No, configure has no way to guess where a particular distribution puts its files. Actually, this is not really true. It is possible to use pkg-config freetype2 --cflags to know that. I'll try to think about it later. JMarc

Luca == Luca Nicotra [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Luca Ok, sorry for bothering ... my fault ... it should have been Luca --with-frontend=xforms gtk Or simply --with-frontend=gtk. xforms is added automatically. JMarc

lyx-gtk compilation error
Trying to compile lyx with gtk frontend (./configure --with-frontend=gtk xforms --disable debug) I get the following errors: ../xforms/FormPreferences.h:18:23: error: lyx_forms.h: No such file or directory ../xforms/FormPreferences.h:98 error: 'FL_FREE_COL15' was not declared in this scope ../xforms/FormPreferences.h:98 error: 'FL_FREE_COL16' was not declared in this scope Am I supposed to compile lyx-xforms before trying with gtk??
