I am using Lyx 1.5.5 under Kubuntu (Linux) 8.04 on a Dell PC. It was working fine, until I (stupidly) installed the new KDE 4.1. Now Lyx opens up and /immediately /dies. When I do it from the terminal, I get an error message telling me that I have discovered a bug in Lyx (which I reported

I installed Lyx 1.6.5 on a Windows XP laptop, using the altinstaller (the only one I could find for Windows that had 1.6.5). Before I installed it, I uninstalled the previous version, 1.6.4. When I try to launch Lyx, a DOS window flashes once or twice, and disappears. Lyx never appears.

I know this is an often-discussed issue, but like the weather, it seems to be always relevant. In converting from Lyx to MS WORD I found the path through html to work quite well, even for documents with figures, except for the paragraph environment, which somehow is treated as regular text:

1. I certainly chose view/pdflatex when the failure occurred. 2. The pdflatext command is recognized by the failing Windows machine: I get a pdf file if I do not include pdf graphics in the Lyx file. It is only the pdf figures that cause it to produce a damaged file.
