Hi, I'm a new user of lyx, intending to use it with bibtex for a phd thesis (moving from openoffice writer). I thought I'd create a jabber room for real time communication: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yours, René.

Readers, I am trying to create a custom bibtex style file, using the merlin.mbs function. When I try to preview the lyx document in the di viewer I get an error about the latex run, furthermore stating I should try to fix them. How do I find out what were the errors in the first instance?

I use lyx at home but unable to do so at a public computer. I would like to be able to edit a lyx file in a text editor save the amended lyx file and then when at home continue using the edited lyx file in lyx. The file is stored on a network accessible via internet. I would like to help write

Charles, I looked at my (basic) lyx file in a text editor and it seems a simple structure of (custom?) latex type commands (e.g. \layout). Reading the extended manual, I guess that you suggest I should export my lyx file into latex, edit the latex file and then import into lyx when I am able to

In the document settings you select the citation engine (default/natbib/jurabib). How to use a different engine, for example to use another style such as author-date.

Does this mean that it is not possible to use a style that is not compatible with default, natbib or jurabib engines? Neither of these engines are compatible with author-date style (http://www.ctan.org/pkg/authordate), causing error message (undefined controlled sequence).

Readers, Despite instructions in the web page 'bibtex tips', have not been able to change the bibliography section name even changing the document class and changing the 'renewcommand' appropriately from 'refname' to 'bibname'. Is there a way to remove the section name? lyx 200
