I don't know how to do things in powerpoint. But this might work:

1. Make your presentation in beamer, as usual.
2. Make a pdf file of it.
3. Use pdftk or similar, and split the presentation pdf into
   a set of single-page pdf files.
4. Start up powerpoint. Put one pdf image on each page . . .

There may be some problems. Both powerpoint and beamer make margins. But
you can set 0pt margins in beamer, and a slightly smaller paper size.
Also make sure the fonts match.

Looks interesting. However, it still has the same problem that the original
poster was complaining about: the equations are graphics which float above
text,
so if you move text around (e.g. add a new bullet point at the start), you
still
need to manually fiddle with the position of the equations to put them in their
new positions.

There is something nicer than that:
- Ekee [1], but it's broken on modern distros and unmaintained (though
looking for one)
- KLatexFormula [2], which features no KDE dependency. It doesn't work
on my Linux box, but I never gave it a genuine effort and my best
guess is that it shouldn't be a big issue to make it work.

Both allow to generate images of LaTeX formulae. You could, in
principle, generate the formulae using LyX, copy/paste the LaTeX code
and save the image using one of the above.

Good luck
Liviu

PS If some of the devels read this, given the Instant Preview
mechanism in LyX how difficult would it be to add a context-menu item
that allows to save a given equation as an image file? Does this mean
some significant changes to LyX, or is the existing machinery
sufficient?

Does this mean
some significant changes to LyX, or is the existing machinery
sufficient?

Does this mean
some significant changes to LyX, or is the existing machinery
sufficient?

 I just want something like this:

 \item Nice Equation
 \begin{equation}
 y = x
 \end{equation}
 \item Another equation
 \begin{equation}
 y = x
 \end{equation}
 ...

 You get the idea.

 I see no reasonable way to do this in ppt.  I just ran out
 (electronically) and
 bought mathtype.  It looks like if I was using word, I could do this sort
 of
 thing.  But not ppt.  It has no concept of boxes and glue.

 The only thing I can do AFAIK is:
 Make an itemized (bullet) list
 Make ever other item in the list blank to leave some space
 Glue in the mathtype equations, MANUALLY trying to align them, and hoping
 that
 nothing moves the items of text, because the equations are just pictures,
 and
 aren't actually attached to anything.

 I know _nothing_ about ppt.  Is there any better way?

That's about it. At least in Word you can force an object (like an
equation) to act like one big character, but not in PowerPoint
(LibreOffice Present mimics this "feature", by the way).

By the way: you could have used Microsoft Equation Editor, which comes
with Word. It sucks, but you can get the point across.
