Re: Classic Thesis for Lyx
Copy the .sty files in C:\Program Files\LyX16\Resources\tex (or wherever your installation is), then open ClassicThesis.lyx, which is the master file and make a pdf of the file. MiKTeX should automatically install any missing packages. If it doesn't add them manually. -- View this message in context: http://n2.nabble.com/Classic-Thesis-for-Lyx-tp3679478p3720185.html Sent from the LyX - Users mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Re: Classic Thesis for Lyx
What OS and Lyx version are you using? goodkeys escribió: Hello I'm a noob and have just made my way through the references and tutorials of Lyx. Now i'd like to use the Classic Thesis template found here (http://www.soundsorange.net/resources/classic-thesis-for-lyx/) but i just wasn't able to find out how to install and use this multifile template. Could anybody please point me to a step by step guide on how to install and apply this nice layout? Thanks in advance

goodkeys schrieb: I'm a noob and have just made my way through the references and tutorials of Lyx. Now i'd like to use the Classic Thesis template I recently tried to create a layout file for this style but gave up. Classicthesis is not a document class but extends the document class report (KOMA-skript). Unnecessarily it redefined major environments like title, author so that the LyX file would be full of LaTeX command and preamble code. found here (http://www.soundsorange.net/resources/classic-thesis-for-lyx/) but i just wasn't able to find out how to install and use this multifile template. Just download the zip-file and extract it. Finally open the file ClassicThesis.lyx with LyX and start writing. When you view the file as PDF for the first time. MiKTeX or TeXLive will install the needed LaTeX-packages. If you get errors that a .sty file could not be found you need to install this file manually to your LaTeX distribution - this is complicated for a new user. If you can view the file as PDF, you can start writing your thesis but be aware that you need to know LaTeX or at least own a book about it, because the Classicthesis LyX files are using many LaTeX commands. You can later only change the style of your thesis when you know what these commands are doing. Besides this, I also created a thesis style based on the class book (KOMA-skript). I tired to avoid as many LaTeX commands and preamble code as possible. It works without the need to install further LaTeX-packages. You might give it a try by downloading the LyX files from here: http://fkurth.de/uwest/LyX/ThesisTemplate/Diss-Template.zip (I'm interested in feedback.) regards Uwe

Re: Classic Thesis and LyX
Did you set up some more fonts or change things after the standard installation of your TeX distribution (and which TeX distro do you use)? It turns out I had too few fonts installed. After installing the ubuntu package texlive-fonts-extra, the style works perfectly. Thanks for helping me see this, Günter. Manolo

Re: Classic Thesis and LyX
It most certainly is a font issue. Could you try if this happens with every math formula, only with sub- and superscripts, maybe with formulae in headings or otherwise scaled? Actually, you need no math formula for the error to show A title in an otherwise empty file is enough. Say, \title{blah}\maketitle Does the problem go away if you choose a different font set What commands exactly fix the font set? Could you be more specific about your font setup? I can try. How can I find the info you need? Thanks for your help! Manolo Günter

Does the problem go away if you choose a different font set What commands exactly fix the font set? Several. In LyX, you can select a font with DocumentSettingsFont... And if you select [Default] in LyX, you can set your choice in the LaTeX preamble. However, also the document class could select a special font. Maybe disabling (commenting) the \usepackage{extsize} could already help. Could you be more specific about your font setup? I can try. How can I find the info you need? Maybe you can post a minimal example (smallest possible LyX file that exhibits the problem) so others can try. Günter
