Yes, use
lyx -e latex file.lyx

However, I think this requires a running X server. If you don't have
one you could use Xnest oops. I think Xnest requires a real
X server too... well, vncserver?

 Looks like this is not needed anymore in 1.2.0cvs.
 Could anybody confirm this?

Yes, but this is also true for 1.1.6
