I guess that the reason aspell ignores apostrophes when used for single quotes in a text file is probably because the Alt- shortcut doesn't work in most text editors, and aspell's author or maintainer decided to use some logic to treat them as single quotes when they were obviously so used? Thank you for telling me how to get around this... I think I'm going to have to re-edit a few files to replace some misused apostrophes... Though being more familiar with the bash command line than with formal writing (rules?) I'm not surprised that I thought they were single quotes.
