The exclamation mark that marks the subentry needs to be straight, not emphasized. It is only the ! which should be straight. Got it! emphasized words not allowed in index entries
Is it difficult to change index entries so that emphasized words are allowed? In creating an index, e.g. name index, one clicks behind the word(s) to be indexed. If I have a name like Drosophila, it will be emphasized, because it is already so in the text. It makes also more sense to have the name slanted.
