Re: [M100] Recovering in hospital still
Ken, hoping you will enjoy a speedy recovery the rest of the way. As my father was a cardiologist and both grandfathers were surgeons, I grew up fascinated by various heart procedures but also cultivating a deep respect for their complexity. I still remember the day my Dad came home and first mentioned cyanoacrylate (medical-grade “super glue”) used to close an incision in heart surgery. That was before the Model 100 came out, if I recall how old I was correctly :) Maybe they didn’t use enough glue on you. In seriousness, I’m glad the suture issue was detected and corrected so quickly. Feel better very soon. Best wishes, Anthony On Monday, August 5, 2019, Kenneth Pettit wrote: > Hey gang, > > Just wanted to give an update after my operation. Re: [M100] In the hospital
Hey Mike, Pretty much all 8... 10... 12...?? Well I’ve lost count. But pretty much all of my angioplasty procedures were an easy recovery. Oh, and it isn’t actually surgery (or called surgery) for angioplasty ... it’s a fairly simple procedure (by comparison) with a tiny puncture, basically just like an IV except it goes in an artery instead of a vein. The only one that really caused me any trouble was last September, and that wasn’t actually caused by the angioplasty, it was the horrible laceration to my tongue when they decided under duress to put in a breathing tube. I’m sure you’ll do fine. David, I agree. Hospitals have gotten really good at this. Especially if your surgeon uses the DaVinci robots, which cuts down recovery time. Good luck Ken, I had a heart catheterization back in March, awake thru the whole thing, quite the sobering experience seeing my partially blocked ticker on the monitor. The tech is greatly improved even over a few years ago. Pay attention to what the docs say and ask questions. Hi Ken, Sorry to hear this buddy. Better to know the issue than have it sneak up on you. Sounds like you are in great hands! Reassuring. Get well soon. Re: [M100] In the hospital
Thanks everone for the good wishes! I'm staying positive that everything will go well, even though I have 22 stents and it may be challenging for the surgen to find a stent-free region of the arteries to graft to. I will be sure to report my status when I am able after the surgery. Ken On 7/19/19 8:55 AM, Russell Flowers wrote: Hoping & praying for a good outcome. Re: [M100] In the hospital
Good luck, Ken. I have you in my prayers. I had a similar adventure back in 2004. I had a little pain in my left upper arm (I thought at first it was from lifting luggage for Linda and me onto the Amtrack trains on a trip). At the local hospital, they could not find anything wrong, but the cardiologist wanted to take me to Emory Midtown (Atlanta) and on Monday morning I got the angiogram/angioplasty/stent procedures in an artery in the back of my heart. I've been running hard since and I'm 82 now and feeling fine. The current medical care is great and still improving. I'm sure you will do fine. Just let us know when you get out.
