IMO, the Tdock should not be portable. It is, after all, a 'dock', a docking
station. What I would like to see, rated from high to low, is simply:
- video output
- removable storage
- connectivity
Connectivity is not too important for me, if I have removable storage on a
medium that can be
I agree with Van and others: TDOCK needs to be a Dock (not portable) and
may be powered with a wall wart. For me, an 80 X 25 display would be the
ultimate goal, not just duplicating the ModelT screen on a larger display.
For instance, I think one might already be able to run VirtualT on a
Hey Mike,
I suppose you could use serial port + Bluetooth to drive an 80x25 character
display. But I wonder how slow it would be to do scrolling, etc. I was
already worried about how slow a parallel port implementation would be
relative to a true system bus connection. And I think the tricky

Ken,
Tell me more!
Pretty well everything that's being discussed is already available today;
connect to an old laptop via Bluetooth and you've got your display
Panasonic KX-P1080/81/90/91 printers work with M100 and you can still get new
ribbons for them. These are 9 pin dot matrix printers.
You need the M100 paraller printer cable, of course. Not too difficult to build
from scratch.

Hi Ken,
Regarding the display speed, I guess we'd have to try it but most of the
old-time terminals generally ran pretty well at 9600bd or less (a Linux tty
would be equivalent); the M100's local display routines aren't the speediest
anyway (especially scrolling).
FWIW 8x40 works quite well
Hey Mike,
I don't know that I have magic pointers so much, but I do have working
assembly code that redirects it to the printer port.

I played with that a while back, mainly to talk to
an internal RS-232 SD card module (as well as the
BT module); been meaning to get back to it
soonish.
Hi Bob,
Actually no ROM changes are needed. The existing ROM already supports 80x25
text mode displays (though not for the MENU program).

A modern DVI. The only downside would be the limited number of users, which
would probably increase costs. Since I prefer portability, and the Tdock would
require desk space, I am uncertain about my own interest. However, it is
definitely a worthy project.

For what it's worth, I think the TRS-80 Model 2/12/16 used the same or similar
34 pin header connector for the parallel port. So it might be possible to use a
cable for one of those machine on the Tandy 100/200 family. I cite this because
I believe those cables are perhaps more readily
