scanned images to text though. But am general pleased with my Kodak because of

Yes it's on top of the unit, but because of the lid not sure how well it would
do with large thick books. Most of what I scan is paper work, not books
although I've scanned booklets before and didn't have to tear them apart.

Sound interesting. I am using cannon printer that just does copying and
scanning. It does need sighted help as you need to go through menus for copying
but it does work.
