Have you tried running without the express as an extender? I tried using it as
an extension myself and found I was better off without it.

Sounds to me like your Nano is still paired. Try plugging the device you want
to hear directly into the Soundlink with a 1/8 inch cord and see if you get
sound.

Are you sure your monitor isn't using a VGA port? That can look somewhat like
a serial port. If it is in fact a VGA port you just need a VGA adapter to
connect it to your mini and you can buy those from Apple.
