The answer to your question is largely in Sarah's email reply but she mistyped
focus and crucially typed VI instead of VO. To clarify whilst the required
field is in focus you hit Shift VO and any number on the number row to assign a
hotspot to that area.

I never was able to eliminate such sounds when doing recordings with my
USB turntable. But, it was improved when I plugged the turntable directly into
my computer's USB port. When I went through a hub, the noise was increased.

about it but get a sheided able. We never discussed this in my audio class as
that was about 10 years ago but I'm guessing it's the cables that are the
problem.
