Using Mail on my MacBook Air, I'm suddenly encountering two problems:

the messages table. Now, Tab just does nothing. There is a workaround,
using VO-J, but Tab is more convenient. I've checked all the setting I can

Out of curiosity, does the tab key work in other applications?

What app are you installing?
Is it compatible with Mountain Lion? Some older apps are not.

Also, if it is a PKG extension, you cannot copy the app to the apps folder. You
must open the file and let it do it's thing. This only happens about two or 3%
of the time though.

are there any other parameters that can control the speaking voice when adding
text as a spoken track to iTunes?
I know about the [[rate nnn]] parameter.
I'm thinking specifically of the pitch and intonation parameters.
I suppose I should take my own oft spoken advice and do a little
Actually I don't use that any more. I use the say command as it's a lot more
flexible so do this.

2. open up a terminal prompt.
3. type say followed by -f tenth path to the file. it helps if you can copy and

That's very interesting Sarah. What about the parameters though, like
intonation and pitch. does this use the current pitch, and intonation

Good luck.

Hello Fred,
If your Tab key action has changed, you may have pressed Control-F7. This
switches your Tab key action between moving keyboard focus between Text boxes
and lists only and All controls. Check whether pressing Control-F7 restores
your Tab key to the focus behavior that you expect.
and I think it's limited. You cannot for example do a 40 page txt file spoken

take a hwioe to voice the file but it works for what i need it to do.
Take care.

I am completely incapable of understanding all this stuff. Can someone
simply tell me if there is a pitch or an intonation parameter similar to the
rate parameter?

Hi Phil,
Yes, there is a 4-letter embedded speech command for setting baseline pitch,
pbas, and there is 4-letter embedded speech command for modulating pitch,
pmod. You'll have to read through the guide for details of how each command
works, and to get an overview of the basic principles of

With all respect, wouldn't it just be easier to convert it in iTunes? I don't
think the common user, myself included, is going to go through all the steps
when it can just be converted in iTunes.

Hi Sarah, Josh, and Others,
The say command used in Terminal has switches for options like rate that can
get applied to the file or string as a whole, and also has a switch that lets
you select a voice for the argument to the say command as a whole. Embedded
speech commands are meant to let
