One of the most memorable lessons I learned as an instructor is be
open to all kinds of questions, and to remember, no question is a
stupid, or dumb question.

Re: Fusion; OS X Grabbing Keyboard Control

2014-06-07 Thread Gordon Smith
Hi David

No, that wasn’t my problem and it took me a long time to nail this issue.
However, here we go. My start disk had partition errors. I realised that when
I used some system tools to check the drive. So, I did a total backup. Then I
switched to that backup as my start disk, formatted my internal drive again
with a new partition, and then just restored from the working backup. Now,
Fusion and a lot of other apps work much better than before. Just shows what
can happen with hidden errors like that.

Kindest regards

Hi all

I'm experiencing an irritating issue with Fusion. It is continually
grabbing keyboard control and I can't get back to my VM. Anybody tell me
how to get focus back to the VM via keyboard?

I don't want to discuss the VM here because it's off topic. But this seems
to be an issue with Fusion itself, not the VM.

Also last year there was somebody on the MacVisionaries list who was
programming a whole set of accessible widgets for use by list members with
Dashboard but I never availed myself of them. Basically he asked what
people wanted and he tried to program them.

If you googled MacVisionaries mailing list and Dashboard you may find the
downloads he was offering in beta after trying to meet these requests.

In real life I looked at Dashboard briefly but did not personally find it
 that rewarding.

Re: Drop Box for the Mac

2014-06-07 Thread Zachary Kline
No, I don’t think this is what you want. You seem to want the actual DropBox
app, which is free. You don’t find it in the Mac app store, you get it from the
DropBox web site, www.dropbox.com.
This assumes you have DropBox on the old laptop, too. If you don’t, you need to
also get it there and put the files you want inside.
Best,
Zack.

I already have DropBox on the old laptop. Now I’ll get it for the Mac.
Thanks for the info.

No, I don’t think this is what you want. You seem to want the actual DropBox

 the DropBox web site, www.dropbox.com.
This assumes you have DropBox on the old laptop, too. If you don’t, you need
to also get it there and put the files you want inside.
 Best,
 Zack.

Perhaps it's no longer there, since at the time, Tiger was the OS

there, but I'm not sure now if it's still there, since I guess they
can only keep podcasts on up to a certain time limit, sort of like the

You can find an

usb sound card/microphone for under 5 bucks

2014-06-07 Thread Travis Siegel
The device I mentioned in a previous post is actually sold on Amazon
(not ebay as I'd thought) and itcan be had for less than 5 bucks (us)
It is a usb device with both earphone and microphone plugs on it, and
it's as small as it can be and still fit the items on a single
device. It simply plugs into a usb port on your mac (or pc too I
guess, though I've never used it on a pc) and it is recognized by
nearly all versions of osx. I had it working on a 10.5 version of
leopard, though I've not tested it on 10.4 tiger.
The url is kind of long, so if it wraps, please cut and paste the
whole thing.

Anyway, it's at:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0019SVUQK/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8camp=1789creative=390957creativeASIN=B0019SVUQKlinkCode=as2tag=thsisne-20linkId=EWJ5J7JNJDMRLWRF
I have absolutely no affiliation with this product other than the fact
that I bought one, and we used it for several years until our intel
mac mini died. As far as I know, the device still works, but it has
been dropped off the desk several times since then, and the plastic
outter casing has come off, but the circuit board and jacks are still
as tight and firm as ever. I'd wager it'd work just fine even without
it's casing, but all of our other computers work, so we've not plugged
it in since the mini died, so can't say for sure. Just thought this
would help some folks, since talk of microphones and usb devices have
been on the list lately.
