Hi Sarah

NO, that’s fine thanks. I just needed clarification of format. I have the
info now thanks to your kind explanation.

Kindest regards

If you need an audio demo I can very quickly provide one as I log in to ssh
every day for some stuff on my dream host server. which is not jane doe. lol!

Yah, bit if you need to access system directories, it’s a snap when you’ve
got yourself root access on-the-fly. I was struggling with Terminal because
I couldn’t get into the root folders. Now, I can. And after all, it isn’t a
GUI you’re using so you aren’t likely to be there unless you know just a bit
about the CLI. Well, enough not to destroy your data, that is.

But here’s another one that I need to resolve. When I log into a site using
SSH, what’s the command sequence? I mean how do you actually manually log
in? I’ve tried everything and I need to get to the right thing pretty
quickly. I’m taking on more network admin work and it involves this kid of
 access.

I found this by pure accident. If you ever want to log into Terminal as
root, all you have to do is this:
 1. Open up /Applications/Utilities/terminal.app
 2. At the log-in prompt, type the following, (without the quotes):
 sudo bash”

There you go, you’re off and running as “root”. But be careful what you do
 there. ;-)
