This comment is prompted by Lee's remark that he doesn't want an iPhone and
is thinking of switching carriers. I use my cell phone very little; only
have it on the grounds that it's better to have it and not need it than to
need it and not have it. Further, I have hardly anything connected to
anything else, in any fashion. With this disclaimer out of the way, I'd
like to put in a good word for Consumer Cellular. They provide you a cell
phone -- mine is a Nokia -- and it doesn't do much but allow me to make and
answer calls (it does collect messages, allow texting -- both text and
pictures -- etc., but I never use it for that). The cost is $20.00 per
month ($23-and-change with taxes) with 100 free minutes each month,
unlimited long distance, and *no contract* -- you can drop it or add it at
any time. So far, great service and I haven't found any "dead spots." I
don't think you can beat it for price (although I think you have to get it
through AAA). If your requirements are, like mine, rather limited, I'd
seriously suggest looking into it.

BTW, macgroup is the greatest thing going. I don't post much, but I read
every message on the digest version, and it always brightens my day, Marta
being the star of the show. It also gives me great peace of mind, knowing
that there are so many friendly, funny, and knowledgeable people out there,
willing to share their expertise and help solve my problems if and when I
have any.

Happy New Year to all,

Nolan
