Yes. I didn't really think anything about the MacGroup part until you mentioned
it, but I don't usually indulge name collectors anyway so it was going into the
dumper.

[MacGroup] problem composing mail in Chrome

2011-08-11 Thread derbywiz
Anyone else experience this:When I'm at work, using a PC, using Google's Chrome as a browser, and log into my MoblieMe account to get to my emails in Mail, it always hangs up when I double click an email to reply. Doing the same through FireFox, or Safari causes no problem. Chrome doesn't even like it when I just double-click the email to see it in a separate window. I figure it might be this machine I'm using and not Chrome, but I don't know.Bill M.

[MacGroup] diskwarrior - future use of disks

2011-08-11 Thread derbywiz
I finally got around to reading the comments some of you had concerning using DiskWarrior and re-building the directory on your Macs. I've never done that, but sounds like it's high time I do. Since I'm thinking of buying a DiskWarrior disk, it got me thinking - isn't there discussion of future Macs (and the current MacBook Air) not having DVD/ CD drives, and with the on-line App Store being our new source of software, how will this kind of maintenance be done?

One possible way to use it would be if it was on a thumb drive. Take the
download option and copy it onto a thumb drive could be one option.

Nora has a good idea for you do have to BOOT from the external system to
rebuild the disk. I have purchased an external DVD drive from Apple and
hopefully this will work when I get a machine that has no built in disk drive.

I had the same problem when we went from Tiger to Leopard, or Leopard to Snow
Leopard, I can't remember which.

I was told by the folks at DW that they had to make a new version for the newer
software and I imagine if you called them you would find the same. If you just
upgraded I would think they would get you the correct version at no cost but
giving them a call would be my first option.

but sounds like it's high time I do. Since I'm thinking of buying a
DiskWarrior disk, it got me thinking - isn't there discussion of future Macs
(and the current MacBook Air) not having DVD/ CD drives, and with the on-line
App Store being our new source of software, how will this kind of maintenance
 be done?

Thanks Harry, I'll try it tomorrow, never thought about that.

 Anyone else experience this:
When I'm at work, using a PC, using Google's Chrome as a browser, and
log into my MoblieMe account to get to my emails in Mail, it always
hangs up when I double click an email to reply. Doing the same through
FireFox, or Safari causes no problem. Chrome doesn't even like it when I
just double-click the email to see it in a separate window. I figure it
might be this machine I'm using and not Chrome, but I don't know.

Nora has a good idea for you do have to BOOT from the external system to
rebuild the disk. I have purchased an external DVD drive from Apple and
hopefully this will work when I get a machine that has no built in disk
 drive.
