hard drive killer?

Hi, Is there some component in a Mac Pro that could fail in a way that would kill hard drives? I have been running Mountain Lion (ML) on a 2012 Mac Pro for over a year. In recent months, it started doing some flaky things, so I decided to do a fresh install of ML on a different hard drive.

Gregg, I've experienced similar drive failures and the cause for me turned out to be a weak power supply. See if you can test the power supply under load; free-running measurements mean nothing. Or swap out the power supply with another unit. HTH, -Carl On May 14, 2014, at 8:36 AM, Dinse,

Hi Carl, I was wondering if a bad power supply could be the cause. Also, a friend said that something could have gone bad on the SATA bus part of the motherboard. I will see if I can get someone locally to help me look into this. Thanks, Gregg On 14 May 2014, at 1:03 PM, Carl Hoefs

Agreed. Power supply is a primary suspect; also bad heat sensor in the drive area, or the fan it controls. On May 14, 2014, at 10:03 AM, Carl Hoefs newsli...@autonomy.caltech.edu wrote: Gregg, I've experienced similar drive failures and the cause for me turned out to be a weak power
