so i guess i have to:
setenv POSTGRES_INCLUDE something_i_dont_know
setenv POSTGRES_LIB something_i_dont_know
if you installed postgres at /usr/local/pgsql/ then
POSTGRES_INCLUDE = /usr/local/pgsql/include
POSTGRES_LIB = /usr/local/pgsql/lib
I have been happily using Image::Magick (following Randal Schwartz's
instructions on installing IM via Fink and then tweaking PerlMagick's
Makefile). However on finding that my version of Fink couldn't find

1. Are these instructions the received opinion on how to upgrade from
5.6.0 to 5.6.1?
2. Will I need to rebuild all my Perl Modules after upgrading?
3. Regarding the tests that Ray mentions failing, what
I really don't have anything much to contribute to this - merely more

Well, seeing that my name has been dragged in to the mud by that

I would like to develop some software using perl and cannot seem to find
any information on how to create windows, buttons, etc. Can anybody

For MacOSX
if you've installed 5.6.1
in the same location, you may not need to rebuild the framework.
I'd be very interested in hearing from people who are using different
Perl versions, and gathering more information about what versions just
work and what versions don't.

Create the file ~/.MacOSX/environment.plist containing the following
content WITH UNIX LINE ENDINGS and log in again. But if you set LC_ALL to
anything but C, I have found that the problem persists, so this still
doesn't seem to be a full solution. You will probably want 'en_US' for

Most of the sample widgets I've seen, I'd rather
seo them available as menubar widgets instead.
Come on Chris - that's a bit like dismissing something just because there's
only a poxy hello world example, and why on earth would anyone just want to
print hello world?
I dunno, this is slick, but
think of it as a browser without really being a
browser.
hmmm. that's not really very useful. What if you just create a palette of
buttons for actions to perform? Is that really a browser in any sense at
all? Or is Photoshop a browser that you only use to manipulate images in? ;)

Is there any way of getting CamelBones (0.2 or 0.3 pre) to run under
Panther? Sticking the framework in /Library/Frameworks doesn't work
and attempting to build from source using XCode yields
gcc-3.3: GNU Objective C no longer supports traditional compilation
gcc-3.3: GNU Objective C no
Any suggestions?
The patch didn't work for me out of the box either. However, Mike
Bombich suggests running 'sudo gcc_select 3' before make test
http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
I actually did i before the make - but everything seems to be working fine.
My iBook just came back from repair. The first thing I wanted to do
was back up stuff that hadn't previously been.
So I call psync into action and get the following:
[solidgoldpig:~] alexr% sudo psync -r /Pictures/
/Volumes/192.168.0.40/SGPBACKUPS/Pictures/

Can't locate MacOSX/File.pm
I'm trying to install the binding for Growl, Mac-Growl. But failing, obviously.
[solidgoldpig:~/Desktop/GrowlPerlBindings/Mac-Growl] alexr% make test
PERL_DL_NONLAZY=1 /usr/bin/perl -MExtUtils::Command::MM -e
test_harness(0, 'blib/lib', 'blib/arch') t/*.t
t/Mac-GrowlNOK 1# Failed test
The following modules installed fine on my old iBook, but on my new
intel MacBook just fail.
Test::Pod::Coverage
Test::LongString
Test::Exception
Test::Memory::Cycle
I can't find any wails of complaint so I'm guessing there's something
wrong at my end, but I just wanted to check

Snap. Mine are the same according to a quick comparison in BBEdit.
The only difference between our set ups is that I'm still running
10.4.7 (but I bet you didn't just install them)

Term::Shell won't install for me.
The two villains in the piece appear to be Term::ReadLine::Perl and
Term::ReadKey both of which installed passing all tests.

I need donations to CamelBones. Or web hosting customers. Or consulting
clients. Or a plain old-fashioned job. Or something - and I need it soon.
Good luck Sherm. I wish I had work I could punt your way. I wish even
more that Apple had picked you up and made CamelBones a first class
citizen.
I was on my way to install Net::SSH::Perl when an error with
Math::GMP stopped me...
This prompted me to try and install GMP again (though I can't
remember now why I wanted to install Net::SSH::Perl in the first
place ;)

Not a single word about perl. No mention of CamelBones, using the
Scripting Bridge for perl, or the fact that perl has CPAN with
12,000+ high quality
I'm surprised that you are surprised. After all you took part in the
thread in which Sherm said this:
