Hi, Looking into things a bit more, I think I find what the root build system is doing wrong. Its not quite as simple as I first thought. I had a small typo in the paths I was passing by hand to test things outside macports, and when I fixed that I now get Checking for Python.h ...

This is a potentially silly question, but it would be sillier if I didn't ask. I installed postgresql-90 server via mac ports, but am stuck unable to start the db. Mac ports creates an OS user called 'postgres' and I am supposed to $sudo su postgres -c '/opt/local/lib/postgresql90/bin/pg_ctl

Solved! when I copied the data over from the old computer to the new, even though I changed the owner:group to postgres, I did that only for the top level directory. The underlying directory tree was owned by me, the normal computer user (because of the act of my copying the stuff, I guess).
