I am trying to fix a problem with the root port and the python26 variant. The

As far as I can tell, the configure step for the build fails because the
python-libdir directory does not have a lib libpython.dylib file.

I guess the root port always uses -lpython without querying the python

I have two computers -- my Intel Core i7 MacBook Air has macports installed on
it at /opt with a bunch of packages that work. I want to recreate the entire
set up on my Intel Core i7 iMac (both computers are running Lion). I was hoping
to simply copy the /opt tree to the new computer. However,

Hi,
Looking into things a bit more, I think I find what the root build system is
doing wrong. Its not quite as simple as I first thought. I had a small typo in
the paths I was passing by hand to test things outside macports, and when I
fixed that I now get
Checking for Python.h ...
Why don't you just symlink it? No pain this way, everything *thinks* it is on
/opt/local while it is actually on the other drive...

This is a potentially silly question, but it would be sillier if I didn't ask.
I installed postgresql-90 server via mac ports, but am stuck unable to start
the db. Mac ports creates an OS user called 'postgres' and I am supposed to

Solved!
when I copied the data over from the old computer to the new, even though I
changed the owner:group to postgres, I did that only for the top level
directory. The underlying directory tree was owned by me, the normal computer
user (because of the act of my copying the stuff, I guess).
