As a Mac OS X user and a FreeBSD user I personally like the fact software is built from source, with the option of packaged binaries also. This allows users to have more choice over how their software is built and how it runs for their own needs and for their system environment. Macports is without doubt a life saver for many Mac users who, without Macports, wouldn't be able to install and use certain software without learning about compilers and linking libraries, and all that jazz. ___ macports-users mailing list macports-users@lists.macosforge.org http://lists.macosforge.org/mailman/listinfo/macports-users

Thanks, this is the reply that I was looking for. Sorry, wish I would have found that first, but I didn't know where to look or what phrase to google after I had already looked for a while. Just to be pedantic, MacPorts supports OS X 10.6, 10.7 *and* 10.8. The difference with 10.8 though is there is no build bot for it yet, so no binary installations are available for that platform yet :( cheers Chris smime.p7s Description: S/MIME cryptographic signature ___ macports-users mailing list macports-users@lists.macosforge.org http://lists.macosforge.org/mailman/listinfo/macports-users
