I made the mistake of upgrading Xcode to the latest version (11.0),
where Apple seems to have introduced stuff that breaks a lot of things.
Among these, it seems, is gcc9. More specifically, when I tried to
upgrade outdated ports, a number of them could not be compiled, such as
poppler
As the Julia programming language has recently received some attention,
I thought of giving it a try and wanted to install it from Macports.
However, the Macports version (0.6.2) is outdated by some 2 years; the
current version according to the Julia homepage is v.1.1.1, with newer
releases

I have installed the current biblatex-biber (2.11.0) on my Mac (macports
v.2.5.4 on Mac OS X 10.13.6) and tried to use it, but the run fails with
the error
> biber supplement
