I've had a google account for email for a long time. Due to the recent changes
to google interface, I find it almost impossible to monitor or change my
settings, and it is so consuming that I feel it is no longer viable for me to
keep my google/gmail account any longer.

I am on the list but do not use a Google account. If you have another E-mail
account like the one that Apple provides, you should subscribe to the list by
sending an E-mail to macvisionaries+subscr...@googlegroups.com.

I was working on my computer and my wife was listening to music on the iPad.

web-pages and other non-document kinds of textual areas. VoiceOver handles
some of this much better now, especially in web-pages so it's not as necessary
as it used to be. Like the older Drag Drop method
