Hi Mary, that's correct. The adapter that ships with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus does not allow you to charge at the same time as you have wired headphones plugged in. I've had this verified by sighted people who saw the adapter displayed on the keynote, and looked at the adapter on Apple's site.

While I agree that this is being blown way out of proportion, according to the images that are on the Apple website and in the store app, there is not a pass the report for charging with the new lightning to 3.5mm adapter. That would probably explain why it's only nine dollars to replace it.
