Revisiting Safari not responding

I am frustrated with Safari not responding. It happens on a daily basis. I am doing nothing intensive. Simple Google searches, webpage reading. Please, is there settings I can change to improve things? My MacBook Air is less than 3 years old. Processor 1.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7. Memory
