You will need to enter your password to get it to stop. It will pop up whenever
you open the mail app. If you forgot your password, you will need to go to the
web site for your email provider and go through the “forgot my password”
process to select a new one.

I haven’t noticed any issues with Mail since updating to the new macOS.
I know you know this, but I would suggest shutting down your Mac, and
restarting.

If you no longer have the Password, then I would delete the account under
Internet accounts. If you still need the messages, then the only other thing I
can think of is go to the context menu of the email inbox for that account with
VO Shift M and take the account offline. That should keep it
