Strange problem with dashboard.

Hi everyone! recently i opened the dashboard, and looked at the widgets in their, however, when i closed them items in the dock were read out. I heard that shouldn't be the case and, was told to have a genius bar appointment however i want to try and fix this myself without going to the apple
