There is a preference pain you can download I can't quite remember off the
top of my head what it's called but it allows you to go in to system
preferences and disable the startup chime.

immediatly and you simply doubletap to stop recording and then hold the home
button down for about 3 seconds and let it go.
Then simply press the home button

It was a stupid problem that I should have noticed.
Had a sighted friend here and he said the skype input and output was
reversed.
I had soundflower set for the output not input in skype and the
internal microphone for the input.
