I have the AirPods second gen’s as well, )not the pro’s) and have noticed that
sometimes the widget will display the cases battery life on my phone, and
sometimes it won’t.

The widget on the Iphone should tell you about the case too.
It does on my Iphone 15 Pro max with iOS 17.4 beta.
But I have the AirPods Pro 2nd gen so it may be a difference in how things show
up.
