I would like to use espeak but as for now i use infovox and vocalizer.
I just found Oliver compact to be very snappy and good for my ears actually.
But this is ofcorse personal preference.

switching applications. Give it about five seconds to sort itself out,

Heather in particular comes to mind.

I personally haven't encountered this, but Vocalizer does suffer from
some other issues. I'm sure those will get addressed, as did the issue
with the quality four years later.

I remember this was a bug they introduced way back in Lion ( And for some
reason it was never delt with.)
