Go to system preferences, and interact with the preference pain with
vo+shift+down arrow. Vo+arrow to users and groups button and vo+spacebar on it
to open it. You will hear voiceover announce: "Users, groups and login options
List 1 item selected. Simon Cavendish, current user
If it is the Status menu item that is causing the issue, you are supposed to be
able to drag these out of the status menu. I am not sure if that stops the
program running, or just removes the icon. Are there no instructions online
about removing this program?

You might try pressing vo-shift-m on the status menu item, if that opens the
menu then there might be a quit menu item there.

How do you remove a program from the status menu? I have the zedge program
that I’m trying to uninstall but it won’t let me remove the application from
the applications folder because it says the program is in use.

I am writing this message from the mac now. I am not sure how to get to the
startup items on the mac, there is where the problem might be.
