You can try the more button and see if that helps, but given that is a movie
file, I don’t think it’s going to work. An app to try is VLC for that format.
It’s a free app.

the list of Apps I can share the file with does not include the Books App. The
list of possible Apps seems inappropriate for a file of type m4b.

Yes, go to the share option for a file and see if your desired application is
in the list.

On the Mac you can use FINDER to locate a file and then choose the OPEN WITH
option to specify the application you want to use
