Is there any chance the write protect switch has been turned on accidentally?
I've done this a few times and get similar behavior.

and what you're doing now?
1. Download the book.
2. Go to the downloads folder off your home folder.
3. Find the book.
4. When focused on the book, press command+c to copy.
5. Now, navigate to the new location
