In the VoiceOver utility, in the General category, enable the checkbox that
says, allow VoiceOver to be controlled by Apple Scripts. Also, make sure
Keyboard Commander is also enabled.

Hey Kim,
Go into the vo utility and pick the first row in the table, it might be called
general or something like that. this is where you can add a personalized
greeting when the computer is turned on. In this same row is the radio button
for "use apple scripts". Make sure this is checked.
