Well, it is annoying, but I’ve seen this in Windows as well.
At least I didn’t lose speech this time when the headset was connected.

I don’t know why the default output isn’t changed automatically when the new
device is connected, but it was the same with mine: I had to alter the
settings. I’m sure it’s a deliberate policy choice on Apple’s part.
