Another thought on the ssd fixing a slow macmini.
The operating system had to be reinstalled too. Perhaps that was the source of
the fix.
An apple store will do that for free, or at least my local one does. You could
do it yourself using the recovery method or download approach..

I just fixed a 2014 Mac mini for a guy that was running quite slowly and had
the spinning beachball, I put in the solid-state hard drive and it took off
like a sculled ally cat. The model that I did the upgrade on is the entry-level
model that cost about $499 back in 2016. Ended up having to
