Hi all,
I read that we should rename or convert books downloaded from Bookshare into
HTML format. Of course, one can read these books with Safari and other
browsers. Can we make the browsers remember a particular place in the book?
Kindly let me know.

Bookshare Web Reader doesn't involve a download; the books are read on their
Web site directly.
An interesting alternative that I haven't tried is Thorium Reader, which can
access EPUB books. It's an Electron application that should work with VoiceOver.

If you are updated to Catalina, you can open the EPUB book in the Books app and
it reads … okay… or, if you are more technically minded, you can install Emacs,
Emacspeak, and use Nov.el to read it.

As do I. Bookshare is promising a lot, and I hope they can deliver. My
natural impatience is unleashed, for sure.
By the way, am I the only one who tried to sign up for the notification list

The way I do it is, use a program like the unarchiver which will unzip password
protected zip files. One of the files will have an xml extension, just open
that in safari and off you go.

Hi Brandt,
Check the archives for more suggestions but the method I use right now is to
open the xml version of the book in safari. There is a free daisy player
called Olearia but I couldn't get it to read from one chapter to the next
without manually telling the program to move on. The safari
Hi there folks,
Are there any way of reading a bookshare book on the mac, without taking the
daisy book apart? I know that in Windows we have the victor reader software.

For some reason, the built in archive utility does not support password
protected zip files. Do a search for a program called the unarchiver. It will
handle these kinds of files. After extracting the files, you can copy the book
to a device, or open the xml file in your browser.

Hi John,
I don't know if this has to do with it, but I unzip my files using unarchiver,
a free software that unzips any kind of file. when I unzip the bookshare book
it does give me the prompt for the password.
and yes, you can open the xml file and you can read the book with safari.

Hi all,
I just tried to grab a book from bookshare.org using webkit. The zip file
downloaded just fine, but I can't seem to get a password prompt when I go to
unzip the file. It just tells me that it failed to extract.
Also, when I used windows I would just open the .xml file from daisy books
Hi, Reading the xml file also works in ie8 in windows.

read Bookshare books on Mac OS 10. You could do the following:
1. Unzip the book. I just use the unzip command from terminal.
2. From Finder, go into whatever folder you unzipped the Bookshare
book into.
3. There shoul
