Dear Anne, I wrote you privately to mention that I would try looking at the keyboard focus item setting in navigation as soon as i could. it turns out that this setting was chosen as you had suggested. However, it didn't solve my problem. I tried both settings and the result was identical.

Hello Kevin, I'm sorry my suggestion didn't work for you. I have Mail set to Classic View and Conversations turned off. When I press Return, the message is read in its entirety. If i want to activate a link, I just press VO-Cmd-l and I'm taken to the next link which I can activate with
