On iOS, go to the More tab, and then go to iCloud settings. ON the Mac app
there's a button on the home/podcasts screen which takes you directly to iCloud
settings. Just check all the relevant boxes to sync your podcasts, podcast
episodes and settings too if you want to sync settings.

How do I open a link on the NLS BARD site in a new window?

2013-08-23 Thread swgowin
Using Mountain Lion and Voice Over, how do I open a link on the NLS BARD
(digital talking book) web site? Voice Over recognizes links like the book
titles as both a link and a heading. I can activate the link directly but
haven't figured out how to get past the heading so that issuing
command-shift-M will allow me to open the link in a new Safari window.

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Re: How do I open a link on the NLS BARD site in a new window?

2013-08-23 Thread CJ Daniel
Hi,

Not sure if I understand all the specifics of the problem that you're
experiencing. But, I'll give some work-arounds that I use in similar
situations.

First, when trying to click on a link in a header, I find that, sometimes, for
whatever reason, I have to interact with the header to access the link. Again,
not always, but sometimes.

Secondly, I can, usually, use VO-Shift-M to bring up a contextual menu click
on Open link in a new window or Open link in a new tab. But again, that's
usually. Other times, when using this procedure, I'll get another context menu
that begins with Back. Then, I know I've got to go the pseudo sighted Mac
user route. I.E. I route the mouse to the link, via VO-Command-F5. I verify
the previous function via VO-F5 then press Control-actual track pad click.
This always brings up the correct menu. Note: this won't work if Track Pad
Commander is enabled in Voice Over configuration. Hence, I tend not to use it
in Safari.

Hope this helps,

CJ

Re: How do I open a link on the NLS BARD site in a new window?

2013-08-23 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi there
I am not sure either what you need to do, but if you are trying to get to the
wish list you have to press the enter key on the title. This is true even if
you are using a Windows computer, and the Bard website does not make it
obvious. Pressing the enter key on the title takes you to the place so you can
add a book To the wish list. I couldn't figure out any other way to do it
until a friend of mine figured it out.

Gigi

Re: ABBYY fine reader updates

2013-08-23 Thread Phil Halton
Thanks Ann, I just updated from V8.0 to V8.3.
BTW: it looks like scanning multiple pages with the Epson isn't going to work
out very well. Maybe I'll look into VueScan, but for now, I am satisfied
scanning and converting one page at a time.
I use scanning mostly to check the snail mail and scanning the first page is
usually enough to let me know what it is and whether I can chuck it or need to
scan the remainder.

If you need to update FineReader, make sure the application is closed, then
do the installation as usual and it will automatically replace the old
version. Your serial number should be carried over to the new version without
 you having to do anything.

Remember to repair permissions after installing new software.

 Hello Phil,

Don't worry about updates. You'll be notified about them from the Mac
Appstore and there's no uninstalling to be done. The confusion comes
because ABBYY FineReader for Mac was available before the Appstore existed
and some of us bought it then, so we have to get our updates from the
 website.

As for scanning multiple pages, you can do it with ABBYY FineReader, but
it's pretty laborious. You have to click Resume and then go back to the
scanner window to click Scan, and so on and so forth until you've done all
 the pages you want.

I prefer to scan with VueScan and just use FineReader to perform the OCR
but that means laying out more money.

 Cheers,

ABBYY FR has a menu item for checking for updates. It takes me to a safari

bought and downloaded yesterday, is 8.0.2.xxx.

Re: small gps victory

2013-08-23 Thread Jessica Moss
Ok, managed to get it up and running, but have a couple of questions. Can you
use it to access/get directions via your contact list, and how do you go about
finding nearby points of interest?
Also, I tried just for the heck of it, sense I'm not going any place over the
next day or so, just doing a random search just to see what it does, and typed
in OCharlie's, and it gave me the name of the nearest location, but didn't
tell me the address.
I sometimes go there with a friend, but have no idea as to which one, so of
course, it would be convenient to know what location I'm going to, so how would
I go about finding the address to the locations that pop up?

 Hi all,

If anyone's interested, I just found a folder on my computer with all of the
old Mac podcasts on Blind Cool Tech done by Mike Arigo. There are 14 of them.
Let me know if they're still sought after and I'll put up a Dropbox folder
 containing them.

New bug with vO and the podcast app on IOS

2013-08-23 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi all,
Has anybody else noticed a new bug with the Apple podcast app on ios? Since the
update of this week, when I go to play a podcast, the phone freezes and nothing
plays. Eventually, I can tripple click home VO off and on again and everything
returns to normal. I can then play the podcast as normal I'm getting this
consistently now so wonder if anybody else is experiencing this. I'm using an
iPhone 5.

Re: How do I open a link on the NLS BARD site in a new window?

2013-08-23 Thread Chris Blouch
Command+Enter usually opens a link in a new tab while
command+option+enter opens a link in a new window. At least on OSX 10.8.

Hi,

Not sure if I understand all the specifics of the problem that you're
experiencing. But, I'll give some work-arounds that I use in similar
situations.

First, when trying to click on a link in a header, I find that,
sometimes, for whatever reason, I have to interact with the header to
access the link. Again, not always, but sometimes.

Secondly, I can, usually, use VO-Shift-M to bring up a contextual menu
click on Open link in a new window or Open link in a new tab.
But again, that's usually. Other times, when using this procedure,
I'll get another context menu that begins with Back. Then, I know
I've got to go the pseudo sighted Mac user route. I.E. I route the
mouse to the link, via VO-Command-F5. I verify the previous function
via VO-F5 then press Control-actual track pad click. This always
brings up the correct menu. Note: this won't work if Track Pad
Commander is enabled in Voice Over configuration. Hence, I tend not
to use it in Safari.

Hope this helps,

CJ

Using Mountain Lion and Voice Over, how do I open a link on the NLS
BARD (digital talking book) web site? Voice Over recognizes links
like the book titles as both a link and a heading. I can activate
the link directly but haven't figured out how to get past the heading
so that issuing command-shift-M will allow me to open the link in a
new Safari window.

Thanks for any advice you can provide.
